I need to fit a neon indicator switch in place of an ordinary light switch. Unfortunately there is only one wire to and from the switch (plus an earth).
The new switch is a double pole switch with the neon wired across the two bottom terminals.
I understand that I also need a "neutral" wire to make it work properly.
Where do I find a neutral wire?
How do I wire up the switch?
Frengineer.

Did you manage to resolve this issue ?

I have a similar problem, whereby I have a switch that incorporates a neon light which I need to use in place of a standard existing switch to my bathroom.

The new switch has 2 outer brass connection points, at the top with one either side.

Immediately below are 2 central connection points, one marked L2 and the other N2.

Below and in line with these are 2 more connection points, one marked L1 and the other N1.

I only have one black and one red wire incoming into the switch.

Any assistance on what goes to where would be appreciated please.

Best Wishes

I don't know if you noticed but the original thread is four and a half years old.

As for an answer to your query there isn't much to add to the original replies.

One wire will go in L1 and the other in L2. It doesn't matter which.
Plus the earth wire, sleeved with green&yellow to one of the earth connections.
The black should be fitted with a red sleeve.

The neon will not work as there is no Neutral wire.
It is not an appropriate switch for this purpose.

I don't know how many topics there have been in the last 50 months or so.

It would heve been a great help iof you could have provided a link to the old thread so interested parties could have a look at.

In response to your question.

The new switch you have is a double pole switch and not a direct replacement to the one already have,

If you must use it then put wires as outlined by EFLImpudence

I am still around because I have never had a response to my question until now.

Unfortunately the wiring to the switch is obviously not suitable.

At least I can now rest in peace.
