Hi,

I want to replace a 60yr old yellow bathroom sink. The waste pipe is lead and it has a formed U bend within itself, if you see what I mean.

When I fit a new white sink, with a modern bottle trap, the trap outlet will be below the hole through the wall now being used by the lead pipe. Is there any way of avoiding drilling a new hole through the wall for the new plastic waste pipe?

Id put a new hole through the wall. Could do a bodge with couple of bends, but asking water to run uphill doesnt work and will likely lead to problems sooner rather than later.

elongate the hole downwards and re - use the lead trap /waste - It was put in by a craftsman  Honour his work. If you really want to do a new hole - the way NOT to do it can be seen by any sky dish fitter anywhere in the country

When I get the sink I'll offer it up to the wall to see if a new hole or an elongation of the existing one is best.

I didn't think there would be any other way but I like to ask.....

Thanks for your replies, fellas.
