Fitting new plastic into existing clay sewer

Hi All,

I am installing a new WC and need to connect into an existing clay sewer that runs outside along the length of the building, can anyone please advise me the best and easiest way to cut into the run of sewer to fit the necessary plastic T piece.

If you're fitting a W.C. then you need to allow access for rodding the run to the W.C., usual practice is to fit a manhole at the connection. (And before we get told off, it is also notifiable work to Building Control.)

Anyway, expose existing clay pipe, make 2 cuts through it at appropriate distance apart. Remove this section, and chamfer ends of clayware to accept the couplings. You need 2x clay to plastic adaptors, one either end. If you use the 'Fernco' type adaptors with the jubilee clips, these will slip over the plastic pipe, then pull back over the clay.
