Fitting new soffits and facias

Hi
Can anyone give me a rough idea how difficult it would be to replace my old wooden soffits and facias for new PVC ones? Ive had a few quotes but at the minute I havent got that sort of money to spare. Ive done pretty much all the work in my house myself from building walls, fitting new bathroom, plastering, electrics (what I can) etc.. My neighbour over the road is having his done & it looks fairly straight forward. Im in a bungalow which makes it that bit easier I hope

Without seeing the old ones, no idea. Long as you don't encounter asbestos it shouldn't be hard, access should be easy enough on a bungalow (couple of 4' zip towers & some Youngman boards would do, much easier than ladders)

Yeh theres no asbestos in the roof/loft. Im assuming its just remove old soffits/facias, make sure rafters etc are aound, cut and fit new ones one. Obviously a bit more too it, but generally is that it?

Pretty much. Make sure you maintain eaves ventilation in the soffits, if you're thinking about EWI you might want to link the jobs (drop old soffits, EWI, fit new so the vents work properly )

Itll just be a straight swap. Old boards off new ones on, with vents in. Just wondering if its something i could handle myself. Also, any ideas on costs of material?

The hardest thing is going up and down and up and down the ladder, and trying to do it on your own.

After that its pushing the tiles back to get the eaves tray in.

Why would you want to take the existing timber off instead of over cladding it? That it self doubles amount of aggro.

Its a bit rotten in patches and scabby. Just thought be easiest incase it rots underneath

Don't forget the eves tray mentioned above. The original probably had roofing felt overhanging the gutter - this felt is often decayed and and torn back. The eves tray tucks under what's left of the felt.

It wont rot once its protected from the weather by the new plastic fascia and the eaves tray/roof felt. It's no worth removing it if it does not need to be removed
