I am building a extension bathroom and have decided to fit new upvc windows, when fitting them, is there a regulation regards the position within the opening that they must be fitted, the reason I ask is that the windows have the cills 150mm wider than the window therefore i am restricted to the depth I can fit them due to the damp cource in the window.

the new preferred method of aperture location, is for the window to sit in such a way that it partially covers the joint between inner and outer skins.

this means that the inner face of the window should be about 15mm back from the vertical dpc.

this reduces the risk of any rain driven damp bridging.

Hi Noseall

Thanks for the info, I was worried that might be the answer as I had fitted on the front skin of the cavity,so they did not cover the vertical DPC.
tommorow I will remove them and refit in the correct position.

Thanks.
