Hello,

Never done before, but looking for advice and expertise what needs to be done? Best place to buy?

Are there any guides?

Thanks in advance

Measure, check then double check, measure in 3 places in width and height and deduct 10mm from the smallest size, mistakes are expensive.
Always write the width down first then height and use millimetres not inches
Always include add-ons/frame extenders and cills in your finished sizes
Read and understand all building regs relevant to the fenestration industry and apply where neccessary
Check for existing lintels, they are your friend
Think about how you are going to get your installation signed off
Think about any impact not having an 10 year IBG to fall back on if things go south in the future

I would add measure inside and out , got caught out when the head of one of my windows was stepped ( opening in outer skin was larger than inside)

FENSA used to have a window fitting guide that might help.

There are quite a few building regulations to comply with:

safety glass in danger zones
fire egress
risk of falling
passive ventilation
structural support.

You also need to consider damp arrangement.

In general, If you are replacing upvc with upvc into cavity construction face brickwork, the fitting and survey part is possible for a DIYER.

I won’t mention the obvious self cert issue

I installed my first lot of DG, the second lot I had fitted. The reason was that I got quotes for buying to fit and the cost of them fitted by a local company - the difference in cost saving just didn't make worth the time and especially the effort of DIYing.
