Hi chaps

Firstly - I'm not sure which section this should be in building, decorating, or plumbing! Mods feel free to move!

I need to fit a 40mm shower base in a corner. One wall on the corner is an external cavity wall that will be dot and dab. The other is the carcass of a stud partition. My final finish in the shower will be giant plastic panels - I think they're around 3mm thick.

Around the shower I will use cement board. Am I okay to board the bathroom out down to floor level, and then fit the shower base, or does the base need to slot in under the cement board?

Thanks

Gary

Gary old son,
Width of top rim of wall to shower tray?
Is outside wall of tray vertical or on a bevel?
Regards Me

Hi Oldun,

The tray is 40mm deep, made of 'stone'. The outside edge of the tray is vertical, and has a very small radius on the top.

The width of the rim around the perimeter of the tray is around 80mm - diagram below.

Cheers

Gary

Gary,
The way we do them.
On the stud wall double up sole plate between uprights. Two reasons, fixings for cement panel and for bead of silicone.
On dot and dab wall fix batten 12x50 to wall where tray will go.
Fit trap to tray, cut hole to floor for trap and bed tray on tile adhesive tight up to timber grounds and make connection from below
Cut boards to height required.
Before fixing, run bead of silicone into angle of tray and timber and then drop board into place on top of tray and push home and fix. This forms secondary seal under and behind board.
Fit your 3mm panels and run Dow Corning round tray and panel for primary seal.
Do not forget uprights for fixing door and frame.
One other thing. Some cement panel does not like dot and dab, so remember where your dabs are and then the next day put mechanical fixings through the board and dabs into the wall.

cheers guys - I think I'll buy a tanking kit too - all the threads telling tales of leaky showers has got me paranoid.
