Am fixing up a new washing machine. I have switched off the mains - no cold water which is good and switched hot water taps on to drain the residual hot water in the pipes - the flow does not stop though (was on for hours). Any ideas???

It is a combi boiler.

Where did you turn off the mains. You may have more than one stop cock. Each of our cold pipes has it own stopcock!. Try turning it off outside at the meter, if you have one or the main property stop cock.

It's only a small 1 bed flat....if i turn off water outside will that not effect the other 7 flats?

Look for the isolator as KevPlumb suggests then.
