Fixing brick face

I hope this image shows. We had a handyman come and put up some fantastic shelves, unfortunately this has happened... The screws were too long and have gone right they the bricks. This is only an outhouse (although there are some going into an interior wall too).

I'm after the neatest way of mending. I could take the brick out and replace but I'd have to mess with the new shelves. What I was wondering about was angle grinding the screw and then filling with something e.g. red brick repair - unfortunately the brick isn't 'red' but thought this might be the best solution for the time being?

Does that sound reasonable or am I being daft? What would others do?

Did a lot of the brick blow out or was it like that before?
You could patch it with mortar

Thank you - yes the brick was fine before this. My dad sensibly pointed out that I need to replace the screw with a shorter one as otherwise it'll still stick out of any repair!

Have you ever used a coloured cement?

forget the coloured cement and replace the brick.
replacing one single screw fixing is not going to "mess with the new shelves".

fill the hole with mortar

moisten it slightly with a small paintbrush then press brick dust onto it. The fresh cement will grip it as it hardens, and the speck of colour will not show.

the grey mortar in your pic has too much cement in it.

If you have plenty of gritty brick dust you can work it into the mortar mix in place of sand. And press a bit more on while it is fresh and soft.

Unfortunately the ledge for the shelf is only held to the wall by two screws, so this would be half of these.

Cut out about 35mm of brick,and cut off screw, find matching brick and make a brick slip 25mm thick and fix with mortar and point up.
