Fixing Squeaky stairs?

Hi I'm trying to fix some squeaky stairs, and I've watched some YouTube tutorials and was thinking of putting some screws in to the end of the tread so they go down to the riser.

My problem is, how do I know if there are wires or pipes under there? I know I'll be aiming right for the riser by measuring it, but I don't want to risk anything incase there's stuff nearby.

Ive jsut fixed some floorboards on the landing and there were lots of wires and pipes underneath.

I can't any way to check. Anyone got any ideas?

very very unusual to get any sevices other than fully below the bottom tread line [usually well outside the lower string line] ----
-- perhaps stair lighting in the strings but thats not a safe area anywhere on the treads and risers buts lights in a visible line repeated tread and riser up the stairs may suggest a possible conflict so visible take caution nothing visual or known a free from services area but a quick cursory search is advisable
do not screw into the nosing countersink at perhaps 10-12 degrees under the nosing through the riser and perhaps a 30-35mm screw into the base off the tread above so not visible on the nosing or exiting the tread above
keep in mind you screw through the nosing in the middle you may hit the top off the rebated riser and partly or fully miss the riser so give little to zero support to the joint

Hi there, thanks for that. I didn't fully understand what you said but I think I get the jist of it.

I've attached a photo with arrow where I intend to put the screws. I can't really look underneath to see what's there but I'm assuming if I hit the riser then all should be fine, just don't want to take any risks.

Photo is just one step at end of landing, need to do about 3 or 4.
