Can frame straps be used for external fixing?
I am about to install a new front door and due to the construction of the house, need to fix to the outside leaf.
The porch is recessed and the cavity wall returns into the porch area. I have had to cut the external wall return, leaving an 8" stub return to maintain a bit more strength. Due to the construction, there is no internal leaf to fix to, so I can only direct fix or use straps on the external leaf. Using straps would mean fixing them outside, but they would be covered by render and hidden.
Would they be likely to corrode and blow the render, or can you get galvanised or stainless straps?
I haven't been able to find either.
