Dont think this quote fits into any other forum.

Ill soon need to be drilling for fixings in a converted garage. The walls are masonry covered with plasterboard skimmed with plaster.

Ive seen plasterboard fixings, but demo videos seem to suggest these are for plasterboard with a cavity behind it, but if I use masonry plugs Im not sure they will penetrate deep enough past the surface to bite into the required material.

Some of these attachments will really need to take some weight, specifically some shelves, a support for a full length mirror, and a floating cupboard to conceal an electric meter.

Any thoughts, or am I over thinking this, Im rather new to the DIY game.

Thanks

Plasterboard fixings aren't what you need here.....you need plastic plugs that will pass through the plasterboard and penetrate into the solid substrate behind.
Use a masonry drill, but use a smaller one first as a pilot for the plug required....this can be helpful if you aren't used to using a hammer drill.
You may find that normal 6 or 8mm plugs aren't as long as you'd like, although some long types are available. If you get stuck, use the plastic bit from frame fixers, together with a conventional screw. If the wall behind feels particularly soft, then its fine to stick them in with No Nails grab adhesive or PVA glue.

Just use normal plugs and increase the screw length by 25mm .Most masonry will be fine , only thermalite need special plugs.

If there is no gap between the plasterboard and underlying material then use masonry fixings of increased length. Don't worry about it will be fine :)
