Victorian mid-terrace. A few years ago I had a loft conversion company install a pair of RSJs between party walls and strap up a floor between them.
This was great but it got really cold in winter and really hot in the summer, which wasn't doing the stuff I was storing any good.
So I fixed 2x1 battens to the rafters to make them 95mm deep and fixed 50mm celotex between them (leaving a 45mm air gap) and then fitted another 50mm celotex over the top for a total of 100mm insulation.
The temperature is much more stable up there now but I am always denting the insulation when moving stuff so I would like to fix some wood panel over the top. It would also make it a lot easier to add fixtures later.
So I have two questions:
Which wood panel product should I use? Ply, MDF, etc.
And will the rafters be able to take the weight which is starting to add up?
Advice appreciated. Thanks.
