Flat bed for brick slips

9. Can STS 12mm Construction Boards be used behind a wood
burning stove?
Yes, STS 12mm Construction Boards are A1 fi re rated and an ideal
board to use behind wood burning stoves.

I have 12mm NMP 50mm behind a woodburner with a painted finish and its perfect.
Totally missed that they didnt want to use a board though! OP, best to flesh out your brickwork with mortar render and stick the slips on with this in that case, as mentioned by others. Seal the old bricks with SBR to maximise adhesion

The only mention NoMorePly make of temperature in their datasheet is to tell you to aovid variations and to acclimatise it before fitting. So it may have quite a lot of thermal expansion, in which case it may pop itself or your tiles off when it gets hot.
It will behave far better in those locations than any of the alternatives.

I skimmed some low patches in the bathroom with tile adhesive before tiling, seemed to work fine. Was thinking it should stick to itself as well as it would stick to anything else.

Don't know what that stuff in a bucket is made from. Generally powder tile adhesive is vastly superior, premixed can't contain cement otherwise it would have set in the tub shortly after it was filled at the factory.
