Flat roof-best solution

I have a flat roof and wish to replcace part of it, if not all,myself but don't wish to use hot bitumen etc. I see alternatives on the web-rubber Firestone rolls...has anyone got any knowledge of these products and recommendations?
any help appreciated as always
