Hi, we are having quite a bit of work done on our place.
One bit is a new flat roof..

Architect specified "fibreglass roof finish laid by specialist installer"
Builder is planning on going for the below 2 products, again laid by a specialist.

IKO SBS Torch-On Cap Sheet
Anderson Premium SBS Torch-on Roofing Underlay - Icopal

Any opinions on the suitability of fibreglass versus this torch on underlay and cap sheet?

Thanks.

They both will perform equally if fitted properly.

But the felt is probably s lot cheaper for the builder to do.

How many square metres does the new roof cover? and did the Architect specify a particular brand of fibreglassing system? Some are more flexible than others and a south facing roof is going to get the sun (if we ever have a summer again in the UK) so thermal expansion might, if not already needs be taken into account.

The flat part is approx. 4m x 4m
No particular brand specified.

Indeed. I would be less worried if it were a north facing roof.
The wooden windows we had on the south facing side took an absolute beating. So we know what the sun can do.

Cheers.

All roof coverings are designed for "south facing" roofs. Along with north, east and west facing roofs ". They are not direction specific.

OK. Thanks all I think I'm happy for the builders to proceed with the sbs torch on stuff.

I'd be happy with that - there are threads here somewhere about Fibreglass roofs making noise.
