Hello everyone!

I have a small sun terrace on the flat roof of my kitchen. We sit out there a lot and I want to make it nice but I have little knowledge and no imagination so need a bit of help.

The roof is covered with felt (or is it tar?) with flashings around the edge where it meets the house. covering most of the felt are some weird kind of tiles that I cannot identify. Anyway, these tiles were ill-fitted, many are cracked and they are unsightly. They have to go!

A trusted builder says it would be extremely difficult to get the tiles up, so covering them is preferred.

Question is - what to cover them with? Everyone says timber decking, but I hate the stuff.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Lady

PS I have uploaded my images into an album and ticked "show images" but I cannot see them on this post.

They're 'promenade tiles', I would very wary of adding any extra weight to the roof as it will not have been designed as a floor. Dare say the roofers may be able to advise on if you can just lay new ones on top, I don't really see why not though if the existing ones are well stuck down..

You've done me a huge favour in identifying that my tiles are "promenade tiles". Fifteen years and I never knew what they were called! So THANK YOU because now I can ring around and find some new ones.
