Hi,
I need to build a floating subfloor to sit on a not quite level solid structural base. I have never done this before and I would greatly appreciate if someone who has could have a look over and let me know if it seems like it would be sold it enough, or offer any advice if not.
My current plan is to lay 10mm depth softwood battens flat on the floor at 40mm centres, then fit spacers to the battens to provide level points of contact for the plywood. I would lower 18mm plywood sheets on to this and screw into the battens/spacers, with cross battens at any lateral plywood joints. My solid wood flooring would then be fixed to the plywood with tonguetite screws which I have used before and quite like. I have made a presumption that 18mm thick plywood would be necessary to get a structural span, but if this is overkill when there will be 20mm wood flooring added to the top, I would be happy to save some money. The spacers are exaggerated in the drawing below.
