Floods

Keep seeing annoyed residents of Fishlake on TV complaining about the floods. I wonder if they ever thought there was a clue in the villages name?

Fishlake is a Labour heartland that is being targeted by Tories.
And the only reason Johnson visited and all the fuss being made in the media.

It is was in a marginal seat, every resident wouldve been a millionaire by now

Freekin hell ..you need therapy...everything is Brexit for you ..Suppose it caused the floods!

Same with Somerset. Before drainage was put in, it was the land of the "summer settlers" - people would go there to let their livestock eat the lush vegetation after the autumn and winter waters retreated.
Those old drainage schemes are starting to fail. It costs millions to fix them though, so maybe Somerset will one day be a place just for summer again.

Lots of drainage problems appearing across the country due to lack of investment. The floods are partly due to worsening weather, thanks to climate warming, but also because of poor planning and poor maintenance. The Government is to blame - it's their job to carry out flood mitigation, not to mop up afterwards.

An increasing number of developments are on flood plains...

This affects whether an area is flooded, directly or indirectly...

Developers are large political donors...

As the americans say, 'go figure'!

Plans in progress to build on the "meads" opposite where I live. Mead, also known as a piece of low ground near a river.

It did actually didn't you know? Boris lied about the weather apparently he said it wouldn't rain for the next 50million years in this area and lots of people believed him and bought the houses Boris owned, this enabled Boris to offload his his toxic assets before they were ruined. The timing of this story and the floods are all coincidental nothing to do with the GE/Brexit etc no really.

Nothing to do with brexit.
Or me

Im just repeating what has been happening -the floods are being used as political campaigning by labour and Tory.

Johnson would not have bothered going to see the floods if there was no political gain.
Corbyn claimed the Tories wouldve reacted faster had it been Surrey....same thing.

Maybe you can point to the bit where N7 mentions Brexit in this post you were quoting:

He links the visit to the GE campaign, which is pretty spot on.

Election...nothing to do with Brexit then!...

I don't know why people think that the UK should declare a national emergency just because some random small town somewhere got flooded. FFS

I've particularly got no sympathy for that woman business owner bleating on about how she was not covered because the insurance cover was only for homes not businesses, and yes that excludes businesses run from home.

I wondered that, however it seems declaring a national emergency does start a process which begins with a COBRA meeting. And that brings together senior figures from different agencies to get stuff done.
