Good Morning Forum,

I'm currently involved in the design of a new dwelling, especially the following first floor construction:-

Gymnasium (Heated space)

concrete screed (floor level lines through with hallway to house, therefore no zone for insulation)
concrete beam and block floor (required for large span/robustness for gym)
Timber battens
Plasterboard Finish

Garage (Unheated space)

U-Value needs to be 0.13 W/(m2.K) (Notional dwelling specification for new dwelling - BR Part L)

Has anyone come across this design before, where insulation is below concrete beam and block floor?

I've reached out to Kingspan technical, however still waiting for design, therefore the post on here.

Many thanks.

You would insulate between the exposed beams that are beneath the blocks, then add a continuous layer beneath and then your plasterboard. Any of the insulation suppliers should be able to tell you what thickness you need to achieve your U Value. Though whatever you do will need to be approved by whoever's overseeing the house warranty assuming someone is, be that NHBC or LABC or whoever.
