I am looking to knock through a wall between the kitchen and dining room.
The wall supports the floor joist of two rooms above it, and does not run up to the roof.
At present (I can see under the floor boards) the floor joists just rest on the wall. If i replace the section of wall with a universal beam, do I need to provide floor joist straps to pass building regs? or can i leave the supports as they are but resting on the beam not the wall.
By the way I am an unqualified structural engineer, but my knowledge is lacking on the technical aspects of actually building it!
Thanks
