good morning troops,
am a resonably experienced builder in the carribean and have been sent to your well recommended group for a bit of advice and help.

i am looking a small , 10 m2 ) very rough concrete slab that i need to tile. it is not acceptable the way it is for all the obvious reasons. some areas are out of level by an inch ( 25mm) or more others by an 1/8 (3mm).

i am looking at pouring a hand mix self leveling screed and have found a couple of , what seems on their face, to be good products. Mapei Novaplan 2 and novaplan easy.

pot life is 60 mins so that gives me time to hand mix in buckets and pour but there is a specification in the data sheet called " flow time" at 10 minutes which i don't understand. is flow time the amount of time it takes this stuff to ultimately seek its own level or is that the amount of time you can move it around before you lose control of it ? as said, it is a small area so i figure no more than a few cubic feet total to address the whole thing starting at the deep spots and moving away but if i only have 10 mins from the first bucket to the last, then thats just not going to work...

any sage advice ?

i would use mapei adesilex p4,its cementbased, but you will need to do a couple of runs with it when your doing the deep areas mate.
its an adhesive but also can be used as a slc, quick setting(i think)

i mainly use F-BALL slc.

the nivoplan..is this not siutable for floor areas..?(cant remember..)because of the traffic that may go over it,think its walls only..i may be wrong here, but double check.

just read this again mate
your using NOVAPLAN and not NIVOPLAN....oops picked your op up wrong there bud.

yes the NOVAPLAN will do the job for you..its similar to some of the f-ball ones i use..you can add an aggrerate/granite chipping to the mix..to beef it up.

as for mixing/bucket times,it will depend on temp. your working at,if not sure do some small mixes then pour, leave a few moments then trowel over.

just check setting times it can range from 12hrs -36+hrs.

no worries. i knew what you meant. but whats the " 10 minute " deal they were talking about ?

this is the workable/adjustable time, as its a cementbased leveller your using so what i do is..

chalk out Xm2 at a time, then using the powder out the bag run this dry down your chalk lines, then get your mix and pour into the Xm2.
the dry powder acts as a dam(your slc wont run everywhere)contained in the one area..
then leave for stated time and then trowel to level.
