I have just laid some floor tiles in my kitchen. Is it wise to use a sealant on them to avoid them being stained? What type of sealant should I use?

What type of tiles, ie ceramic, vinyl.
If they are vinyl I would contact the manufacture. If ceramic I am still undecided as to sealing mine that were layed about 3 months ago. So I will wait for the pros on here to offer advice.

Our tiles are unglazed ceramic and have just been laid. According to a web site I found last night, it is best to seal them to make them less porous as certain things such as oil, grease etc. may leave stains. They also said that the tiles should be sealed as they are being laid, too late for us now, it's all done.
It also mentions using a special cleaner but I would have thought a mop and some soapy water would have been safe. What do you use to clean yours? The other thing was that tiles are better swept with a broom, as dragging a vacuum cleaner across them could leave marks.
I am sure we don't need to be that fussy but sometimes I wish I had laid vinyl flooring instead lol.

If the tiles are ceramic or porcerlain, no need to seal.
If they're stone (terracotta, slate, limestone, marble ... ) you must seal as soon as possible with something like Lithofin or HG or any stain will be be impossible to remove.
