Hi there. I have a largish room that I want to tile, in my flat (100 years old, convered from a house). At the moment, it has a floating floor (solid wood) that has warped - probably caused by leakage, but not yet investigated. The wod is about an inch thick.

Anyway, I want to rip that flooring out and tile. My question is: can I "get away with" a 12mm plywood base? Is 18mm overengineering?

If I can get away with a 12mm base, that'll be good news. The aesthetics will be much better, as the base + tile thickness will only be about the same as the current wood base, so everything will join in that much better. But if I do need an 18mm base, then fine. I'd rather have everything working than have cracked tiles after a couple of weeks ...

Thanks for any help!
