hello i have a slight problem i have floor boards in my bathroom and need to tile the floor, what is the best way to get over this problem cheers
well i have problem firstly i will be too high with 12 mill as i am governed by hall way carpet threshhold and secondly my floor boards run whole length of house as all my walls are studded upstairsEither overboard with minimum 12mm WBP ply or replace the floorboards with 18 - 25mm WBP ply; replacing reduces the threshold height.
Read the forum sticky & the many archive posts in this forum as to how to go about it, & come back with any specific questions.
Don’t be tempted to overboard with thinner ply; the BS recommended minimum is actually 15mm but it’s widely accepted that 12mm is sufficient in most cases; it depends on the floor construction. Some will advise 6mm backer boards screwed & bonded will be adequate but personally I wouldn’t risk it. You can get (or make) a custom door threshold to take account of the height difference & you will, of course, need to trim the bottom of the door but IMO such a height difference never looks good.well i have problem firstly i will be too high with 12 mill as i am governed by hall way carpet threshhold and secondly my floor boards run whole length of house as all my walls are studded upstairs
cheers mate i have a wooden threshold at the moment which was originaly there it is 12 mil so probably ok . to over board also can i lay this in parts as i need to get the toilet positioned at correct height and on the other side of bathroom i have some pipes to contend with so i dont want to over board that part yet . one more thing can i lay this ply and leave for a while before tiling cheers photos on http://photobucket./daz1968 appreciate your help mateDon’t be tempted to overboard with thinner ply; the BS recommended minimum is actually 15mm but it’s widely accepted that 12mm is sufficient in most cases; it depends on the floor construction. It’s the main reason I prefer to take up the original floor & replace it with 18-25mm WBP, depending on the floor construction. It’s not difficult to cut & remove sections of the floor & floor boards (as opposed to chipboard sheets) are one of the easiest. It's a little more work & expense but, if done correctly, will almost certainly guarantee you won't have any problems with tile failure.

hello mate i dont know if i have done this properly , but hear goes. firstly i have screwed down floor boards to joists, applied 8 mill plywood to floorand screwed down, looks a solid floor but i still here creeking of floor in places and just wondering am i waisting my time and money tiling the floor cheers dazsecure boards to joists, prime boards.
glue and screw a 6mm backerboard,as above, tile floor you should reach your 12mm threshold.

If it’s creaking it’s moving & could lead to failure, impossible to judge without seeing it!Don’t be tempted to overboard with thinner ply; the BS recommended minimum is actually 15mm but it’s widely accepted that 12mm is sufficient in most cases; it depends on the floor construction.
