I live in a 1st floor purpose built flat/maisonette (it's a block of 4 flats with individual entrances, 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs). The property was built in 1985.
Something that's been baffling me as I've redecorated rooms over the time I've lived here is the flooring.
In the lounge/dining area the floor appears to be made of concrete. In all other rooms, there appears to be a concrete floor of similar construction, but approximately 2.5" lower than that in the lounge. There is then a wooden floor mounted on 2"x2" joists which are sat on top of the concrete.
Why do I have concrete floors at different levels? It seems a very strange and inconsistent construction to me.
