i\\\'m in the process of laying a new wooden floor (new pine froorboards) over existing concrete i\\\'m going to do it the floating way but dont know the spacing for the battens to fix the floorboards to, also i\\\'m brickin\\\' it cos i cant find the route of the copper c/heating pipes ive used one of those metal/wire dector things but it dosent pick them out i dont want to hit a pipe and hve to pull the whole floor up any suggestions

Can't follow your story: are you installing floating (using DPM and insulation on the concrete first) or are you installing battens first on the concrete (if so, why?) and then nailing the floorboards to the battnes (IMHO waist of material , money and time if your concrete floor is level)
