hi, i have just fixed ramp strips on my floor and since the level of the floors is'nt exactly similar - the ramp strip is a bit unstable.

I want to now put some screws on either end to secure the ramp strip and would like to know
a.if one can screw through the ramp strip and laminate floor
b.any specific type of screw someone can suggest that I use. Presumably I can put screws and then cover then with a suitable filler?

thanks

How are they fixed at the moment? Have you glued them down?

Fixing with screws depends on what the subfloor is. For concrete, you'll need to drill and plug the holes; if it's wood you can drive screws straight into it. In either case be aware of any cables or pipes that could be in the area.

I'd use countersink screws and leave them flush without filling; that way they'll be easy to remove when you need to. Slotted head screws (rather than cross-head) will make it even easier; pozi screws in the floor collect dirt and get scuffed.

For a nice finish, use inset screwcups and align all the screwheads when you tighten them down.
