we have a 2002 installed Sime format 24 kw boiler. British Gas have looked at it and said the flue terminal position is damaged at the end, they tell us they don't make them anymore. Apparently a bird could fly in and block the flue and therefore cause a hazard. We were told we would have to get a new boiler. Any suggestions gratefully received.

is it horizontal flue ? if so fit a flue guard (looks like a chip pan basket)
that wont be seen as a permanent repair to a boiler, in reality it will solve it, but IF the terminal guard comes off in the future something could block the flue and cause a problem, any half decent gas engineer will sympathise with the prob but would not put their name on such a repair, check with SIME if the part is still available, if not its new boiler time
