We are currently taking our chimney breast back to the original builders opening and preparing to box it in to make way for a flueless gas stove and I have a couple / few questions:-
1] When installing the cement board to create the opening for the stove then does the horizontal top piece have to have a vent installed to allow airflow or can it completely seal the old chimney flue?
2] The installation instructions for the one stove we are looking at says that a vent must be at least 100cm (1m) from the fire. If the stove is being installed into a recess with a cement board box enclosure with a vent at the top then will this suffice? This will be the escape vent for the fumes
3] If we are putting a piece of cement board at the top of the boxed opening then what is to stop rain coming down the chimney and making the board wet?
Hope to get some valuable input as not found anything so far
Just for info, this is the article that I am basing my work around however where this has an live flue for the fire, we would not intend on lining the chimney etc
