Someone wants an external light fitted but does not want floorboards taken up or walls chased. best option seems to be switched FCU from s/o on external wall and drill out through the back of the FCU. The s/o is set in the wall with the usual facia protruding above the surface. What’s the neatest way of connecting the flush s/o to the surface-mount FCU? And is there a better way to do this whole thing?

Thanks,

Alex

Why not change the socket outlet for a surface mount and butt the FCU next to it ?

...gr8 thx. The dual box is a good idea. I've never fitted one. Presumably I would just need to take a bit out of the side of the current 'hole'?

yeah and maybe a bit out of the back too depending on the depth of the existing box.

remove the central barrier (usually you unscrew the peice with the center screwholes, lift out the barrier and then screw the peice with the screwholes back in) from the dual box so you can easilly route cables between the socket and the FCU

Beware with the dual boxes if you are using metal flat plate accessories. These come a little wider than regular plastic ones and you'll have a very hard job getting two to sit side by side.
