Foam v short pile rollers

Hello, when would you use one or the other?

I've had issues with bubbles using foam rollers, so I stick with short pile mohair rollers for satinwood (e.g. for doors). They seem to be less popular than foam though - any idea why? When should I use one or the other?

Foam rollers are cheaper. Other than cost I have never understood why anyone would buy them, as you mention they create bubbles and often splatter more.

They are better at dealing with slightly curved (convex) surfaces but the short fibre, foam backed sleeves are better when working with slightly irregular surfaces (they don't sell them at screwfix though).

BTW never use foam backed rollers with something like Zinsser BIN. The alcohol makes the foam roller sleeve swell and become floppy.
