My 2000 Ghia came with 2x3 button fobs - lock/unlock/boot.

IIRC (long time since I owned it) you need the key with the red (blue?) tab on it to enabling copy to be made, however I'd imagine duplicate and appropriate information can be obtained via VIN number from Ford.

Dont know if keys are reprogramable to your specific vehicle

all ghias left factory with one remote fob and one normal key. 2 remote option had to be specified at order when new. how many keys do you have? a remote key costs around 50 quid plus programming from a dealer.

Hiya,
Thanks for the info...i bought the car secondhand...i only got one key with it.
The key is black with a little blue square.
Reckon i could get a fob?
Cheers,
Martin.

should be able to get a remote key easily from the local ford dealer. they will, however, have to program it to the immobiliser for the key to start the car. we take half an hours labour to code a new key, as it requires diagnostic equipment and an in-code from ford factory. you can program the fob to the locks easily yourself, but the key won't start the car.

Hi davie,
Thanks for that...not really sure what your saying as the key already starts the car??!...remote key??(that starts the car?)
Id just like the fob to lock and unlock the doors...u reckon i can do this handy enough..ill have a look on ebay for a fob.
Cheers,
Marty.

the fob on a focus is a key with buttons on it. 3 button radio frequency
remote. comes as two parts from ford, the key brass bit and the fob. they clip together. can't find a picture at the moment.

cheers

i have a 2007 focus cmax, and would like a spare 3 button remote key that opens the doors and starts the engine. i have been considering buying a 3 button fob and key blank off of ebay, and having the key cut to save money. Are you saying that even if follow the key sequence as printed in the ford handbook it will not programme the new key to function fully as does the original? Do you advise letting a ford garage do the work to avoid problems. how much should this cost?
thanks doug.

Classics, welcome to the forum but you should start a new topic for your post.

No you cannot just get a key cut. The head of the key has a chip that talks to the ECU via the lock barrell. It needs coding by an auto electrician or the dealer.
You can normally program the remotes yourself for opening doors/boot but you will need the key blade from the dealer[/quote]

EDIT: Sorry just noticed post dates
