In B&Q they sell foil backed PB and the advertise it as a product that helps prevent condensation forming on an external wall. But I don't see how that can work, because it's not insulating, so the surface will be cold like the external wall.
The foil is meant to help prevent moisture from migrating from the warm side of the plasterboard to the cold side.
What you are meant to do is insulate behind the plasterboard first (or above in ceiling situations) and that is what the manufacturers assume will happen.
Using Duplex (foil backed) boards in any other situation is pointless.
Thank you, that's pretty much what I thought too. The B and Q info is quite misleading...
In our bathroom the window reveals get a lot of condensation. There isn't really enough depth between window frame edge and wall to fit insulated PB, so what other products could be used to make those surfaces warmer than the old walls? Insulating wallpaper, is that any good?
Cheers.
