He's trying it because using a standard forklift, it is possible to get something wide through an opening that's much narrower than the load you are carrying.
I've never seen a conventional fork truck struggle. Can't see it being paid for as the need isn't there. I bet it only works on very smooth surfaces too.
being a forklift it shouldnt really be driven on very uneven surfaces anyway, slight ramps allowed, it does say it runs on gravel aswell as smooth surfaces.

yeah we used them on the audience rostrums at the beeb, allowed the seating to be folded flat against the wall, didnt half squeal though, did your ears in
