Hi
I live in an area which was used by the victorians for clay pits.
Am having a single story extension built to an old two up two down victorian terrace.
A test hole has been dug to 6ft to try and find an undisturbed substrata? but we are still finding bits of bricks, old bottles etc.

Builder feels that we need piling.
I saw on a self build program some small piles which were "screwed in" rather than hammered.

QU - I know nothing about piling (tv programmes dont really count)- What are the options? Site access is restricted by a passage way where max height of 7ft 4 and width 4ft,

Thanks

Piling needs to be designed by a specialist, and the need for piling and the appropriate type, is something a structural engineer would assess not normally a builder .... although your builder does appear to be correct that piling may be required, if the ground is as you describe

Grundomat mini piles is a good option for areas where access is restricted.

The plant can be left at the front of the building, and they are vibrated in.
