Like many, I wear jeans much of the time and find I spend lots of time, pulling 'em up, due to my belly. Recently, I found in the wardrobe, a pair of old hipsters, tried them and found them surprisingly comfortable - better yet, they stay put, and don't constantly ride down, and need pulling up. The only disadvantage is the fly zip, is shorter than traditional jeans, making life awkward.

Mottie in jeggings, that's an image that I will never forget!

For the first time this year, I added a pair of long-johns, under my hipsters, for an hour or with Avril, wandering round the local shopping centre. We were particularly seeking out some 'ground anchors' - those curly-whirly steel things they sell for restraining dogs, in the middle of field, and other purposes. I've used three, I had in stock, to lash the bottom of a mesh screen to the ground, at the very back of the garden, to hide the mess beyond. We need maybe another 4 or 5, but we ain't paying £8 each for them.

I haven't worn jeans since I had the double inguinal hernia opp (nearly 20 years ago). When I went back to work 6 weeks later I wore jogging bottoms for the next two months. I hated wearing the jogging bottoms, but found that chinos, and laterly cargo pants were more convenient. That said, I did not own a pair of jeans until I was 19, and, yeah, I don't understand why- I just stopped wearing them. As a decorator, jeans are great. You have dusty hands, wipe them on the jeans and the dust is pretty much invisible.

I guess I found them too restrictive at the time.

Workwise, I wear tan or olive coloured cargo pants because of the dusty (sanding) hand marks.

I have some. It's not hard ground, the problem is it becomes very soft ground when it becomes wet. The mesh is like a netting. We ran a sort of catenary wire along the top of the fence, then lashed the mesh along the top to that, then Avril went along the bottom with tent pegs to fix the bottom down. The prevalent wind direct, from the west, would simply blow the mesh tight against the fence. It was fine, until last week's storm, which unusually blew from the north/east. It pulled the pegs straight out. The mesh blew horizontal, for the next two days.
