Hi Everyone,

I have just taken my ford fiesta 1.4 TDCi 58 reg for its first MOT. All was fine apart from a problem with the wingmirror indicators. At some point (the last owner presumably) the wingmirrors were replaced but not properly. Instead of working wingmirror indicators, i have wingmirrors which are just shells. To pass its MOT I need bulb holders for the repeater lamps and then the garage says it will wire them up itself. Ford only sell the bulb holders as part of a wiring loop for £900!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know where I can get any as a single part or second hand?

Many thanks for your help.

I have used parts gateway for bits and pieces for my car and other family cars. You enter in what you want and over the next 24 hours the breakers yards come back with the prices....

Local breaker might sell you bulb holders from a damaged door. Don't think they will break a good door for you.

Keep in mind that the bulb holder may well be used throughout the Ford range in other mirrors and other lights with the same bulb base. So don't just restrict your search to Fiesta doors. You probably need the mirror/light with you when you go a hunting

Just curious - what sort of wattage are the bulbs in the mirrors?
I know the normal wing side repeaters are only 6w, but the mirror bulbs are much brighter than that.
Either way, dismantling a trailer rear light pack will sort you with a few conventional bulb holders.

So you were sold an MOT failure.

What are wingmirror indicators?
I have only ever seen them on doors on modern cars.

Is the wiring loom present with indicator wiring there?

I think it must be one of the earlier 'new' shape Fiestas Matty - indeed they do have the repeater lamp within the shell but whats happened in this case is anyone's guess.....collision damage presumably.
For the life of me I can't see why the wiring has been removed though!

if it were me id source a set of inexspensive decent looking side repeaters from an electrical specialist and fix them in

The wiring is still there, it was cut so it does not connect into the wingmirror anymore. The wingmirror seems to just be a shell- there is not a bulb holder inside it. Thats all I need to buy and the garage will do the wiring. But Ford will only sell it as a set for £900.

I am sure a good independant auto electrician could repair your car and for a lot less than £800.
good luck
tom
