Hi, i hope someone can help, my focus starts then cuts out when left facing uphill. I recently had a service from kwickfit, the replaced the fuel filter and had a job to start it after, it was ok for a week or so then the problem, started. does anyone have or has had a simular problem?

Have your injector pump and injector pump seals checked out. If the injector pump or seals are wearing out then it wont pull the fuel from the tank when facing up hill.

Check the fuel lines have no leaks, if they have they may well be dragging air back down towards the tank when on the hill. When the air rises in the fuel lines and you start the car it is in effect drawing the air to the injector first.

They are probably the 2 main causes that will be giving you the problem, I would check the fuel lines first. Get a mechanic to draw out any air bubbles that might be there, may even be more after having your fuel filter replaced

Agreed. My diesel Ford used to do the same after a fuel filter change, was the pump at fault. Could be sorted by manually pumping the fuel via the bulb pump, but was never right until the pump was replaced.

Avoid Kwikfit.

has the problem only started since the service... if so b4 you go thinking pump.... you must go back to the filter to start i would be fitting a genuine ford part... pre fill the filter with diesel then check the conections to the filter they must be sound as tdci are a pig to start if it doesent go try a squirt of easy start into the filter not much though if the problem still persists you will need to go to dealer ship for a diagnostic fuel presure check also the injectors on them are programmable 1 hr labour they can be a dear do.... if all else your not happy with it take it back to krap fit and tell them it now wont start .... but depending on the incline of your hill and the amount off fuel in the tank could be the problem ty and do the hill start with a full tank a juice ....

I had no problems before Kwikfit. After it started I took it to a ford garage and they ran the diagnostic computer check. Ids check/no stored codes. Fuel system pressure check/ ok. Leak back test/ ok. I normally have over have tank of fuel and the problem is still there.

My problems were confounded when my colleague stated that he had the same issue, and Ford said, we are getting specialist engineers over from germany..

The bosch fuel pump had an issue.

So i just heard back from kwikfit (they've had the car for 2 weeks) i say i heard back from them, what i mean is i had to call them a few times to get any sort of info out of them.

They now say its the high pressure fuel pump which they refuse to touch as they say its too difficult for them to fix! Who the hell are these guys? I thought they were machanics! Bunch of tossers! I'm going to recover the car to a ford garage where the fault diagnosics start all over again.

Never again will i be so stupid to even consider kwikfit.

Can you confirm if the pump is Bosch? Like I said, sounds like the same problem that I had, and even after it's replacement (by the top bods from Germany!), it still failed to start in the morning, had to manually prime the pump before it started. (there is a bellows type arrangement under the bonnet)..

I'd get over to a Ford club forum, and have a look around, they often let newbies ask questions for free, or PM someone that has the same problem.

It took the ford dealers at Hartlepool two days to fix it. They say it was a fuel leak and charged £105 all in. I still think it may have just been a air lock in the system but for what the pump would have cost i'm happy to have the car back on the road. Thanks for all the input guys.

I think it might still come round to bite you in the bum, remember what I said about pre-priming the pump manually, and remember to let the glow plug light off before starting, Ford were arse over fixing mine, and it bellowed out lots of grey smoke after they 'fixed' it, so keep an eye on it, and good luck for the future!
