Hello there.
Can anybody help/advise me what tools/grease I will need to change two front brake pads please?
I am pretty sufficient at DIY and have done small things to the car over the years (changed tyres, changed batteries etc) but I don't have any car tools and only basic tools like pliers etc.

I was quoted today £250-350 for changing brake pads and sadly I don't have it spare.. so I've deicded to do it myself... Lol

I have a europarts and a Halfords near by

It's a ford KA MK2.

Questions:
1: could anybody possible list everything I need? From car jack to grease etc.
2:As said above I have zero tools (spanners etc). How do I tell what size spanner/nut wrench to remove the tyres?
3: is 250-300 an average price for brake pads replacement?

Thank you for ANY help and advice you've given

Additional:
I know it would be easier to just borrow the money or save it but my wife has important hospital appointments coming up and we don't have any other way of getting there and stupidly doesn't qualify for hospital transport even she is waiting for a mobility car.
We're also on the waiting list for a mobility car (for my wife) and I feel this car will have to be scraped/we will get minimal back on it so we don't want to invest a lot of money into it. It just needs to keep chugging away for an
other 3-4 months

If the car has the non vented (solid) front disc then you need to undo a large Allen bolt and then the caliper hinges away from the disc courtesy of a pin on the lower part.
Sorry, I can’t tell you the size as I cannot remember but you’ll really need a socket type either 3/8 or 1/2 square drive as the bolt is pretty tight.
You may need replacement discs too.
Pop the wheel off and give us a pic just to refresh the memory!

7mm.. and it probably has 2 of them and not a pin. Who knows ?

The problem with trying to list everything is not knowing what, if any, issues you encounter.

Will all bolts undo, will the caliper retract. Are the caliper sliders free or seized.

Etc.

I'd suggest watching YouTube or similar until you feel capable.

Or from a Fiat Panda 169 vid - same car, different skin...

The car I did was a 59 plate, and needed new discs too......looks like they've changed a bit!
Dangerous to write just from memory - I'll shut up for a while.
John :)

Haynes manual is your friend, it has been mine for 40+ years
Always remember my anger when I was changing brake-discs for the first time ( some long years ago ) and found that I neeeded a hex-key in a socket to continue, and Haynes just spoke about "undo fastenings " Really ****ed off as it was about 16:00 on a Saturday afternoon in October and Halfords ( a few miles away ) closed at 17:30. Hasty re-assemble ( working on back on outside parking-area )and drive.

I wrote to them with my complaint about why they didn't specify type/size and got a worthless reply. I don't believe there had been a change to the type of fastening since introduction ( Vectra A/ Cav Mk 3 )

I notice ( last manual purchased about eight years ago ) that they still practice the same vagueness.

This is what was worrying me lol I've used guides over the past few months doing up our house and they ALWAYS leave something out and it always seems like you discover this at 5.15 and the shops shut at 5:30 .

I decided, in the end, to call around further afield. I found an AMAZING garage 40min drive away who did it for 180 and replaced the discs and calipers. I currently care for a relative and my wife and I didn't need the stress if there were any dramas when I took the wheel off. Thank you to everybody who replied

The best and least stress option.

Working on cars, you can't work out exactly what's needed until you're doing it and an obstacle presents itself.

I’m assuming you meant discs and pads? I doubt you get discs, pads and callipers replaced for £180 all in.

Wish they had done one for my van. First vehicle I've ever owned without one, complete with obligatory oily finger-printed pages. Not like the Scudo/Dispatch/Expert/Jumpy was a low volume, niche vehicle. There's millions of them all over Europe. Oddly, I think they realised their error and did a manual for the Mk2, which didn't sell in such volumes.

The pads discs and calipers were replaced but only the front two caliper as the back two were in good condition.
