Ford Transit Jumbo 2004 Starter Fault

Can anyone help. I have a Ford transit 2004 jumbo and the starter has just went. The mechanic says that it's normally down to the clutch burning and creating dust that settles in the starter and causes the fault. Is this "true" as he also mentions checking the fly wheel and maybe stripping sections of the engine.

Any help and a fast response (as he's working on it) would be appreciated at this time

Not sure about stripping part of the engine, but the starter clutch and "flexible" flywheel are a common problem (search transit forums) A solid flywheel and normal type clutch are available on the aftermarket (if you intend keeping the van might be worth considering)
