format hard drive/copying files

Going to format my hard drive (running XP) at weekend as my PC is full of virus which seem to be infecting my .exe files

Have Dell Dimension PC which just had VirginMedia installled and it says have load of worm virus on it.

Have tried few removal tools but just infects the .exe when installed and then the removal tool doesn't open

My question is when I am copying over files etc do I copy over .exe files to my external harddrive to replace when finished formatting or will they infect my new formatted drive

When u format, it will wipe everthing on the main drive.

Use a virus program that runs via DOS mode to remove any viruses from an external drive - you will need to download DOS USB drivers for this..

Try Hirens Boot CD.
