Frame fixings

Hi I have uPVC windows to install into a brick wall (replacing timber frames) - I assume you drill the holes into the uPVC window frame and then pre-drill a pilot through those holes into the brick work with the frame in place, then remove the frame and drill out the holes for the frame fixers. Is there any method for holding the frame in place whilst you pre-drill the pilots ?

You can use wooden wedges/packers to hold the frame in place
(ensure it is very firmly packed)

alternatively you could use concrete screw frame fixings.

7.5 x 120mm would be sufficient (no need for wall plugs or taking the frame back out)

a 6.5 ml sds bit would ensure the screws drive in tight and hold the frame firmly

Thanks, guess concrete screws depend oin the strength of the mortar holding the bricks together.

Why fixings only on the side, but not top or bottom, I have an 1800mm window to stick in, I would have assumed you would fix along top and bottom, at roughly 450mm centres ..

If you fix on the bottom, you will likely drill through the drainage channels and DPM, or otherwise cause water to pool on the frame.

Fixings at the top would go through the DPM thats setup to push water to the outside. Although I have seen windows fixed through the top before.....

fix the sides, and make sure the glass is packed correctly.
