Collected car this morning, all very happy as the dealer exchanged the intermittently faulty auto box, cost of £6k warranty work.

After 40 mile drive everything excellent until reversing into a parking space, opps no reverse gear, called for their dedicated breakdown service he connected his laptop to try to clear any faults but still no reverse, breakdown guy phones the dealer before i drove back to them at the dealer i was told we have fitted the wrong gear box, sorry. so car back with the dealer.

So back in the same loan car,new xf v6 sport (well a hire car as they did not have a similar car available) which had been valeted and nicely cleaned.

Rant over.

The wrong gearbox or the gearbox fitted wrongly? Hard to imagine a gearbox without reverse gear!

Had a phone call from the garage service manager he is also the director of this franchise and this is where i purchased the new car, were on first name terms as they have had the car more than me.

Kind of told him i was not satisfied with their service and that i was expecting better, this car is 6 months old and not cheap.

He has offered to try another fix, take the car back and fully refund me the purchase price or exchange the car for its now equivalent model at no cost to me. This resolution has now been emailed to me.

Seems reasonable.

Are you going for option 2 or 3 ? I assume this is a Jag XF ?

Hi,the defective car is not a jaguar, rather not say the make at the moment. The jag is on a par with my car and i am tempted to migrate to a jag .

Going to decide which option to accept after the Easter holiday, the dealer has acknowledge my instruction and my interest in a jaguar.

Thank you.

No, I reckon it's German and he doesn't want to admit German engineering isn't all it's made out to be!

Didn't they think to test the reverse after fitting the new box?

Surprising that a dealer can repair a car, drive out of the workshop and put it back in the yard all without needing to reverse.

In fact after a gearbox repair would have expected testing would include a couple of miles on the road as well as testing in each gear!

This is the second auto box with the same fault, if I read this correctly - in which case its more likely to be the control system rather than the box itself.
I'd be happy to reject this car - unless a genuine fault is found.
John :)
