Cadent gas come and did a job on a property I was working on back in June. I paid the bill almost straight away.

Today I've received a letter from a debt recovery company saying I still owe said amount.

I have to call them by 10 30 today before they issue court proceedings...

I suspect this is fraud...

What do you think?

Call them and ask WTF it's for.

Cadent don't answer. Answer phone telling me to send email and they would get back in 2 days

Called the bank and they said payment definitely went out on said date to Cadent.

This is the first letter today

Might not be fraud, could just be an automated system and the payment was not registered by accounts.
I'd send a complaint, with copy of their letter, and proof of payment, to complaints department.

Haven't called them as I suspect they just want to extract info out of me

I would ignore the debt recovery company.

yeah, ignore. As I understand it (based on watching ITV now and then) they can't force you pay anything, and the fact that you've paid already would mean if they tried court it would be thrown out immediately as soon as the judge saw that. But make a complaint, their system might have failed and there might be more people getting the same letters.
