Fridge too warm

Indesit under cupboard fridge, no freezer compartment, just a fridge. Froze everything in it unexpectedly about 3 months ago. Now has difficulty cooling anything below 11C, despite turning the control knob up to 6. Was at 3 prior to all this.
I took a look to find out where the compressor fan was = not there, then the evaporator fan = not there, and the evaporator itself = not there.
Compressor is very hot, i.e. you can't touch it for too long.
Any ideas would be appreciated. The fridge is just over 3 years old, and I'd rather try to get it going properly again than add it to a landfill site. Thanks

Faulty thermostat?

I would look at the thermostat as well.

I had a Hotpoint fridge for over 20 years and had to replace the thermostat twice over that period.

I just purchased universal thermostats from eBay. From memory they were about £7. With my fridge it took about 15 minutes to swap it out.

Ok thanks boys. I've just fitted the manufacturer's thermostat, switched on, left it running for almost 6hrs, and am now presented with a not-so-healthy 24c inside the compartment. So I'm stumped by this. The fridge is only about 3 years old - still looks new - so I have to turn my attention to whatever else is causing this problem. The compressor gets really hot, I suppose as it should, but I can't find anything else under the unit. I was expecting to find at least a fan, or two, or even an evaporator, but there's nothing. I'll keep looking....

Possibly lost it's gas, or the insulation as failed.

Yes, but probably not worth doing, unless the manufacturer can be persuaded takes pity on you.

Thanks for your replies. Update - because I know absolutely nothing about repairing a fridge that's not cooling, I finally decided to call an appliance engineer out. £36 for call-out and a diagnosis at least. Turns out that, despite its very infant life, this fridge has had it. The compressor works, but somehow the insulation has broken down, plus (I don't know how) there might be a loss of refrigerant. The condensor and evaporator are both mounted deep within the insulation, and there's no chance to proceed any further. These devices, albeit smarter - dare I say it, are irrepairable. Disappointed to say the least. New replacement on its way mid-week. Thanks again, and I hope this update might be helpful
