Friends

Answering a knock at the door, I was confronted by a stranger who asked, "Will you be my friend"? Naturally, I closed the door in his face.

Only joking. No one came to the door and posed that question. What did happen, was that I received a friendship request from a fellow member - a person whos user name I didn't even recognise. Consequently I turned down the request.

I am keen to know what other members would have done even though I may take stick for the way I handled the situation.

Not a spammer Joe and judging by his profile and posts, a very valuable and well-thanked contributor to this forum.

A few years ago I received three friendship requests. They were all from users who had posted in the same threads as myself but who were otherwise unknown. I could see no harm in accepting the requests so that's what I did - and absolutely nothing happened. Maybe the facility was new so they were just clicking links to see what happened.

I also have a more recent friend that I didn't ask for which is DIYnot itself. I have no idea what that's all about.

DIY attaches you to its friends anyway.
I used to get friend requests, mainly because you could not message me otherwise. Now its left open. Cos the emails get on my tits, as everything goes thru my Blackberry:-S

I really dont know Joe! It was only when I clicked on his user name in the friendship request, that I saw that he had lots of friends and had been thanked for replies to threads.

Thanks for that (I was going to say 'Thanks for that mate' but think that this friend thing is getting to me! ). Found that I can receive messages from anyone. so there must be another reason unless it's a simple mistake.
