front panel of combustion chamber

Hi there,

After reading the notice about DIY on boiler i am worried, i removed and then quickly replaced the front panel of the combustion chamber.

I did not touch anything inside, i slid the casing out a bit and then back over, should i now have my boiler checked to ensure there are no leaks?

No, turn off your gas supply immediately at the meter & inform Transco.

I have a halstead ace combi boiler

I just phoned Transco and they yelled at me saying they are for gas emergencies only and to phone a corgi registered gas engineer.
He said if everything is working then he is not the person to speak to!!

Only call if i smell gas, which ****ed me off because it says if you are worried about gas safety then call.

should i be seriously worried about this, surely the covers are designed to be removed otherwise why would there be screws?

I screwed it back good and tight

Take no notice of Bamber mate he's pulling your plonker. As long as you didn't disturb the seal it'll be fine. But why did you attempt to remove the cover in the first place?

He has disturbed the seal, by removing the cover.

Its a shame i was forced to carry out the repair myself, unless you know a trained plumber you get ripped off.

I had 2 local plumbers come to look at my boiler, both said divertor valve was knackered £150-£200 for the part, then labour for fitting it.

I phoned Halstead technical support who said it will be a tear in diaphragm and the part was £30. And sure enough when i eventually found the divertor valve and removed it there was a rip in the diaphragm.

DHW now kicks in when the hot tap is turned. I am ashamed to say it was a poor show by 2 of our local plumbers

I must confess before this incident I had no idea what the inner workings of a boiler were.

When the part arrived, i went looking for something that it would fit inside until i posted here and someone kindly put up a picture.

I presume the seal you are talking about is that padding around the edge, i was careful to ensure none of the seal moved
