Fuse blowing

Just had a call from a relative, said her dog had leaked over her extension lead, she plugged her washing machine in and the plug went bang and went a bit black, fuse in cupboard also tripped, she said she changed the fuse in the plug but it blew again. The plug is a moulded one so whats the best thing to do, cut the cable and put a new plug on or is something else knackered.

Or better, maybe the next time he wees on electrical things a blue flash will shoot up his willy. That'll larn him.



But seriously, it sounds like there's still yellow water in there somewhere.
Leave it on a radiator to dry out. It'll stink awful. If it doesn't work in the morning, replace it.

If the dog isn't obedient enough to go outside on do it's business, I doubt it will stay on the radiator overnight

Like it, actally they tried another extension lead and it blew the fuse again, am i better off cutting the plug off and putting a new plug on it.

If dog squirted the appliance plug, It could have done some damaged to the plug/flex when shorted. I would cut flex back and replace plug.

So the fuse that is blowing is in the moulded plug connected to the washing machine? The previous suggestion to put it on a radiator I'm sure was to lay that plug on the radiator.

If you can't get it near a radiator, and you are happy you can change a plug then chop it off and replace. However: Don't just put a 13A fuse in a plug you had lying about for ages that you saved when you scrapped a table lamp all them years ago. And don't go to the pound shop for one either.

As regards the extension cable, it's a very bad idea to run a washing machine off one. I hope it isn't one of those wind up things that state "13A unwound, 5A wound" or similar. If you really must use an extension cable then I personally would buy another decent plug, a single trailing socket and the right length of 1.5mm flex. Oh, and keep the washing machine plug/extension socket off the floor.
