The old Wylexes have not got switches manufactured to modern standards.

Ring Electrium on 0161 998 5454 and ask for technical for Wylex. They should know what BS the older stuff was made to.

Arrrrrrghhhhh! That's Proteus......

I had to go back to my 15th Edition (1981) to look that up.

BS 5486: Factory built assemblies of switchgear & control gear for voltages up to & including 1000V AC & 1200V DC.
Interestingly, that BS does not appear in the 14th. Consumer's Control Units are listed under BS 1454.

As an aside the BS for pvc cables in the 14th was 2004, now it is 6004.

Does that answer the question? I've got one of these with the later 100A main switch gathering dust in the garage, I can go and have a look at if it'll help

Might also have an old brown one somewhere.

We love pictures!

I'm not sure if that BS 5486 is just for the switch or for the whole assembly, that's my only worry.

If you wouldn't mind, John, I'd like to know just OOI what the number is on your grey Wylex...

got it here now. as you probably know, grey is Metalclad.

there is a transfer on the cover, under the main switch.

It says:
Total load not to exceed 100 Amps
Cat no 1206
240V AC 50Hz
BS5486 Pt 13
Made in England
(and sideways, may be the stock no of the transfer: 8751).

If you open the cover, the main switch is enclosed in a grey plastic rectangular enclosure.

I did have a brown one as well, it has no BS no and doesn't even state the max load. But it has the exposed 60A type switch with the incoming terminals unprotected (but you can get plastic covers for them)

There must be a market for these old MCBs.....
